HATHERLEIGH Gardening Club members are off to visit two very different gardens near St Austell next Wednesday (June 22).

On its main outing for the year, the club will visit Pine Lodge and Marsh Villa gardens. Pine Lodge, located on the warm sheltered coast of St Austell Bay, has a collection of well over 6,000 labelled plants, housed in over 30 acres of gardens, with the collection growing each year. The gardens are also home to a plant centre and café, where lunches will be available if desired.

In contrast Marsh Villa is a three-acre water and woodland garden located in a former tidal creek. The garden is rich in variety, with a hornbeam avenue, large natural pond, early bulbs, and a low-lying jungle and bog garden.

If the club can generate enough interest the cost of the trip should be no more than £20 to include travel and entry to the gardens.

The bus will leave outside the Hatherleigh Co-op between 9.15 and 9.30, and should be back in Hatherleigh by no later than 6pm. The club welcome any gardening enthusiasts or those who would enjoy the day out to join them.
