OKEHAMPTON’S Covid-19 support group has been busy preparing children’s cookery packs with ingredients and recipes for cakes or biscuits to make during the school holidays.
The packs, free to families in the Okehampton area, can be reserved on the group’s Facebook page, funded by the Covid-19 support group and the Rotary Club of Okehampton.
They follow on from gardening packs containing compost, cress and radish seeds and some wildflower seed bombs given out free to families so children can try their hands at growing during the holidays.’
Greta Button, from the support group, said: ‘They are part of a plan by our group to bring local families a few activities to keep the kids amused after the long months already spent at home.
‘The cookery packs contain recipes and ingredients to make cakes or biscuits. Again these will be offered on our Facebook page for families to nominate themselves or others they know who might like one.
‘All the packs the group has put together — art, cooking and gardening — were chosen to give children a break from screen time and enjoy activities that are good for mental health and well-being.
She added: ‘We have not forgotten the adults of our town, with packs for them coming up. Our intention through this time is to lift spirits, keep people active and promote well-being and that will continue for as long as the town needs it.’
