A FUNDRAISING group drawn from Okehampton and surrounding villages is calling for donations from talented amateur craft workers to boost their pre-Christmas sale in aid of Exeter-based training charity St Loye's Foundation.

Formed in 1966 by Mrs Jan Berry together with friends and other local people, Cosdon Friends of St Loye's raises funds in gratitude for the charity's support and training provided to the founder's son John.

The group has traditionally made toys and practical household items that sell at local events but with an aging and diminishing membership, they need new members and more donations if they are to continue.

The Cosdon Group now produces small household and decorative items, mostly made at home.

They meet once a month to exchange ideas, share materials, sort donated items and organise events.

Group secretary Sherri Henry said: 'I love being involved in the group as I have made new friends while changing others lives for the better, including mine.'

St Loye's Foundation offers life changing opportunities to people with disabilities, injuries and other health conditions giving them the skills and confidence that help lead them towards employment.

Phil Roberts, a fundraiser with St Loye's business development team, added: 'We are so grateful to everyone in the Cosdon Group as their efforts really do make a difference to the lives of the people we support as well as helping to increase understanding about disability and health conditions.'

So if you can can sew, knit, or offer any other craftwork, or are willing to learn and gain skills from the more talented members, the group would love to hear from you.

Help is also needed at their spring and pre-Christmas sales. Donations of any unwanted items for their white elephant, jewellery, plant, produce, cake and book stalls are especially welcomed.

The Cosdon Group Christmas Sale will be held in the Charter Hall on Saturday. November 2 from 9.15am to noon and entry is free.

If you want to know more about the work of St Loye's or if you can offer any help, please phone Sherri on 01837 55137, e-mail her at [email protected]">[email protected] or come along to the Charter Hall on Saturday morning.
