YEAR 4 pupils at Okehampton Primary and their families have been participating in a new family learning course at the school.
Taking inspiration from the beaches at Crooklets and Summerleaze, pupils created unique art pieces using items collected on a beach litter pick in February. Items of plastic 'waste' were incorporated into the art to highlight the amount of plastic waste found on beaches and in the sea.
The final artworks included wooden sculptures, turtles made out of woven plastic bags and bubble wrap, seascapes using discarded fishing tackle and shells, an oyster pot made out of strips of discarded plastic and a cushion cover, also made out of woven strips of plastic.
The artwork is currently part of a display at the school's main entrance.
The course was designed to run alongside a year long project that is looking at plastic marine pollution and how we can all help to decrease the amount of plastic that ends up in our seas and oceans.
