THE popular Crafty Capers event, run by Sticklepath Fireshow, will take place again this year, offering a week of creative workshops. Crafty Capers lies at the heart of Sticklepath Fireshow's year-round work, bringing the old and young of Okehampton and the surrounding villages together for a week of fun and creative activities. Led by artistic director Hilary Gillespie, there will be a range of arts and crafts projects to create, with a team of volunteers on hand to help. For the older children there will be the chance to create a wacky costume and with themes ranging from hybrid animals to means of transport, there's sure to be something to inspire everyone. The week, from August 18 to August 22 and taking place at South Zeal Recreation Ground, will culminate in the hilarious and quirky catwalk show from 2pm on Saturday, August 23, accompanied by an exhibition of the various projects made during the week and lots of prizes. The workshops are open to adults and children of all ages. Sessions run from 10am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 4pm Monday to Friday, costing £2 per participant per session, who can attend as few or as many as they like. Participants under 10 years should be accompanied by a responsible adult, and those over 10 will need to get a parent/guardian to complete a registration card at or before the first session. You do not have to register in advance, but it is recommended you do so as to avoid disappointment in case it gets busy. Sticklepath Fireshow expressed thanks to Waitrose Community Matters, who will be sending volunteers to help out with the workshops.
