BELSTONE Cricket Club is the latest group to benefit from Waitrose's Community Matters scheme.

Club secretary Chris Walpole, treasurer Jane Holmes and club president Peter Hammond visited the store to collect a cheque for £240.

Club President Peter Hammond, who, in honour of the occasion, wore his wicket-keeper's sweater from 1993, the year the club was formed, said: 'We are very grateful to everyone who used their green tokens to support us. We've just been promoted so next season will be playing in division one of the North Devon League which will be quite a challenge.

'This money will be used to buy new equipment and in particular to help with the coaching of the Colts who train with us on Mondays.'

Club secretary Chris Walpole said: 'It may be the close season but it's never too early to join us.'
