THIS hockey match was going to be a challenge for Okehampton with top of the league Dart ladies.

Oke midfielders, Alex Collins, Louise Weller, Amanda Sim and Carol Taylor tackled well, feeding the ball to the awaiting forwards player of the match Kim Davey and Jo Drake. Both Kim and Jo made several attempts to score but Darts defence held firm.

The visitors put the Oke defence of Brieze Reid, Jane Jones and Sandra Douglas under pressure but tight marking and rigorous tackling plus the skills of goalie Viv Weatherington kept them out to make it 0-0 at half-time.

Minutes into the second half Dart scored from a well orchestrated, fine tuned penalty corner.

Okehampton did not let this affect their passion and pulled out all the stops to come back. Alex Collins and Louise Weller passed wide to involve wingers Abi Colton and Winnie Rademaker in an attempt to level the score.

Despite their relentless efforts, Darts went on to score three more goals - from two short corners and a deflection from a defender's stick.

The final score did not reflect the Okehampton ladies' efforts.
