Axminister v Chagford
IN a game reduced to 39 overs due to the heavy rain, Axminister lost opening bats Larcombe (4) and Wakely (0) with just eight on the board both falling to Billy Searle.
However, skipper Paul Miller (63) stood firm and in stands with Seward (13) Reed (14) and Murmane (24) advanced the score to 134-3 before he became a victim of Neal Rowlands.
15 year-old Matt Pile and veteran Sean Perry added 28 in an unbeaten stand to enable Axminister to reach 184-7 in their 39 overs.
Searle with 3-53, Jerry Christophers 2-38 and Rowlands 2-36 were the Chagford wicketakers.
Chagford's reply was even worse, Jerry Christophers was run out for 1, Tony Niven followed for 1, Arnie Searle for 13, Lammonby for nought and Billy Searle 5 to leave Chagford at 25-5. It became 31-6 as Rowlands went for 2; 35-7 as Paul Penberthy followed for 2.
Matt Bowes meanwhile was batting confidently and with Denzil Penberthy advanced their score to 72, before Bowes became the fourth lbw of the Innings with 28.
Lord and Penberthy took the score to 99 before Lord became the second needless run out victim. Penberthy finished on 25 not out as Chagford ended on a disappointing 111-9 to secure a draw.
Nick Taylor 3-46 took the early Chagford wickets, G Larcombe 2-11 and Murnane 1-6 and the impressive Matt Pile 1-24 in his 10 overs secured the wickets for Axminister.
