TO mark St George’s Day, the Dartmoor Tinners and Cogs and Wheels Morris dance troupes performed as part of a pace egg play outside the King’s Arms in South Zeal on Monday night. In a pace egg play, the drama takes the form of mock combat between the hero and villain, in which the hero is killed and brought back to life. In some plays, the figure of St George smites all challengers and the fool rejoices. Pictures by James Bird.
