YOUNG people in and around Okehampton are set to benefit from an innovative project bringing together the expertise and experience of Devon Education Services, Devon Music Service and West Devon arts development charity Wren Music.

The Mix 4 Six project aims to enable more young people of all interests, abilities and backgrounds to participate in music making through high-quality, school and community based provision.

In 2008 to 2009, Mix 4 Six is running in six areas of Devon, one of which is Okehampton. The project is one of five major Department for Children Schools and Families partnership programmes across England.

Following on from a series of events in schools and youth clubs in late 2008, the project partners are now looking to plan for the future of local music making. They wish to hear from all who are passionate about music — young people, teachers, youth workers, and community musicians.

A networking event is to be held at Fairplace Church in Okehampton on Monday February 9 from 4pm to 6pm.

It will include workshops, a discussion about music provision in the area, a live performance, and planning towards three new local music initiatives. Each of these will reflect the interests of young people and demonstrate the breadth of music-related resources within the local area.

The event is free, but it would be helpful if people who wish to attend could let the organisers know how many are coming, so that workshops and catering can be organised effectively — please contact [email protected]">[email protected]
