A RECORD number of people attended the January branch meeting of Okehampton Beekeepers, held at Shelley Methodist Hall, South Zeal.
More than 30 attended the illustrated talk, given by speaker Adam Vevers — the DEFRA Regional Bee Inspector for Devon. Adam's subject for the evening was bee diseases and their recognition, and as he made his way down a long list, he explained step by step how to recognise various symptoms and the appropriate actions to take.
This was an informative evening for both new and experienced beekeepers and a useful and practical start to the Beekeepers' Year.

Ray has run courses for beekeepers in the past and plans further training sessions in the spring.
l The next meeting of Okehampton Beekeepers will be held at Shelley Methodist Hall, South Zeal, on February 10 at 7.30 pm. The meeting will be addressed by Roger Lacey, chairman of Devon Beekeepers, who will deliver a talk about the various training courses and official qualifications open to the beekeeper.
