ORGANISERS behind an event to help people in Okehampton avoid loneliness at Christmas are holding another ‘Eat, Drink and Be Together’ event on Christmas Day.

Last year Jackie and Kirsty Reynolds of Okehampton’s Co-op store will hold the event again on Christmas Day at Fairplace Church Hall. Guests will enjoy a Christmas lunch and buffet tea.

Kirsty Reynolds said: ‘Last year the response from the community, local businesses and local charities was phenomenal with donations and offers of help, which was very overwhelming and we are extremely grateful.

‘Last year was our first year of doing this, we catered for about 20 people. Most of them wouldn’t have seen another person on Christmas Day and have said that they will be coming again this year because they thoroughly enjoyed the day.

‘This year we have started planning earlier so we can fundraise towards the day so we are not so heavily relying on the community.’

Some of the events planned so far include a quiz night at Okehampton Conservative Club on Friday, October 7, a coffee afternoon on October 15, carnival day, a Christmas bingo on Friday, November 18 at the Conservative Club and a grand draw at Edwardian Evening on December 1.

Kirsty and Jackie will be taking bookings for Christmas Day from November 1 until December 10.
