AN afternoon of orienteering for primary schools in the Okehampton Learning Community was again hosted by Lydford School.

Seventy Year 5 children from nine different schools spent an afternoon learning about the exciting sport of orienteering.

They were introduced into how to locate their position on a map, then moved onto using those skills to navigate around a simple course.

The afternoon culminated in the children having the chance to try a competitive orienteering course around the school grounds for a chance to win the Lydford orienteering trophy.

The winners were a team from Okehampton Primary, who narrowly beat Lewtrenchard Primary by completing the final course with no mistakes in the shortest time.

The organisers expressed thanks to everyone who helped and the children for making it such a fun afternoon.
