A WOMAN from Exeter will be leaping off the 100 foot high Meldon Viaduct for CLIC Sargent's free-fall abseil The Dartmoor Drop next month. Kayleigh Sweetland, along with her sister Layla, will be taking part in the daring challenge on September 7 to raise funds in support of their brother Toby. Toby, from Bow, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in March, aged just nine years old. He currently receives support from CLIC Sargent at home and in Bristol as he has to travel to both Exeter Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and to Bristol Children's Hospital for vital treatment. Kayleigh said: 'I have signed up to take part in the Dartmoor Drop because of the support CLIC Sargent has given our whole family. From being able to stay for free at CLIC House in Bristol, to providing support for the whole family, CLIC Sargent has been there from the very beginning. 'CLIC Sargent is wonderful and the support they have given Toby, his parents and even his younger brother has been fantastic. 'Thanks to their support Toby is happy and able to continue to live a normal life – to keep up with his education, play with friends and be a young boy. He isn't even embarrassed about losing his hair and that is all thanks to the ongoing support we have received.' Last year CLIC Sargent provided clinical, practical, emotional and financial help and support to 142 families in Devon. Stephanie Cherington-Rimmell, fundraising manager for Devon, said: 'Kayleigh has already done some amazing fundraising, raising over £400 for CLIC Sargent. I am overwhelmed with the generosity of their whole family, friends and community who are working so hard to raise funds in support of Toby. 'We want as many people as possible to take on the Dartmoor Drop this September. We are hoping to raise over £15,000 from the event which will go a long way towards supporting children and young people with cancer and their families.' Kayleigh said: 'The Dartmoor Drop will be a big personal challenge for me. 'I feel nervous and am counting down the days, but that will make it more worthwhile. All being well, I hope Toby will be able to come down and watch Layla and myself on the big day.' Kayleigh has lots more fundraising ideas to help her exceed her £500 target including a village fete stall with a raffle, cake sale, fun activities and she is hoping to arrange a coffee and cake morning.
