FIRE crews were called to a fire in the roof area of Devonshire Desserts in North Road, Okehampton, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Crews attended the incident after alarms were heard sounding from the building. It was suspected there was a fire in the roof.

They found the fire involving a light fitting in the roof void of the two and three storey detached factory.

The crews gained access to the ceiling void on the second floor and extinguished the fire using two breathing apparatus wearers and one dry powder extinguisher.

They also used a saw to remove panelling affected by fire and heat around the fluorescent light fitting.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
