TWO renowned children's authors visited Shebbear College to inspire Year 8 students as part of the Appledore Book Festival. Christopher Edge – author of 'Shadows of the Silver Screen' and 'The Black Crow Conspiracy', and Lucy Jones, writer of 'The Nightmare Factory' and 'Rise of the Shadowmares' visited students to talk about how they get their inspiration for their creepy fantasy stories. Christopher discussed classic authors of Victorian times such as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Bram Stoker and H G Wells and the famous characters they created. In a fun twist, using photographs of the great authors, he emphasised the importance of having a big moustache in order to become a popular writer in Victorian times. Lucy read sections from her published books and her new book, which she is still working on. She explained where she gets her inspiration for her stories and also got the pupils involved in character development which produced some very creative ideas. Both authors signed copies of their books for excited pupils at the end of each presentation.
