AN EVENING of glamour was in store for the 150 visitors to an Okehampton health club recently, during a fundraising night that raised more than £700 for charity CLIC Sargent.

The fashion night at Phoenix Health Club saw volunteer models strut their stuff on the cat walk wearing fashions from In House, St James Street and accompanied by Okehampton Rugby Club players and male members of the health club.

The models' hair was styled by Ali Redstone, and Kathy Curtis was on hand with the make up.

The night also featured a street dance performance by the children from Lynne Rogers' dance class, who danced to the appropriate track 'Vogue' by Madonna.

The money raised on the night has been donated to local girl Bea Holman-Brooks' CLIC Sargent fund.

Bea's mum, Helen Holman, said: 'Unfortunately we were unable to attand the fashion show as Bea was unwell and ended up in hospital the following week.

'We would like to say a huge thank you to Phoenix Health Club and all the organisers, and everyone who attended the fashion show, for helping to raise money for Clic Sargent.

'The charity have supported us throughout Bea's treatment, and hopefully with the money we raise they can continue to help other children like Bea.

'Having seen the Phoenix Health Club develop and grow, we would like to wish Lee and Mason the very best for a successful future for their gym.'

The event was organised by Kathy Curtis, who works at Phoenix, along with Tracie Martin from In House.

The show was the first charity event to be held at Phoenix since its opening, and the venue was kindly offered by Ali Mason and Lee Carey.

The event was supported by many other local businesses who donated gifts to the raffle, including Dawn Pitts of Quinns Hairdressing, Kathy Curtis from VIE at home, Julie Copeman at Just U handmade soaps and bath products, Tracie Martin from In House and Julie at the Flower Consultant shop.

The first prize hamper of over £200 worth of products was won by Alison Dennis from Hatherleigh.

The organisers expressed thanks to everybody who supported and attended the event, and especially to Lee's wife Katie for organising a fantastic buffet enjoyed by all.

The evening was a brilliant success and Phoenix hopes to run a spring fashion event in the coming months.
