BURDON Grange Care Home in Highampton held its annual summer fête last weekend.

Owner Andrew Orchard opened the event along with Angie Broad, a resident of the home since 2007. Due to poor weather the fête was moved inside with most of the attractions going ahead as planned. Residents Simon Casling and Kylie Hodgson, and care assistant Ali Sowden organised a bric-a-brac, cake and bottle stall.

One corridor of the home was used to house a residents' stall, where all the items were made by activity groups at the home. There was also a raffle and a spontaneous skittle tournemant.

Managers Simon and Jade Tanners even managed to salvage the planned barbecue with an indoor grill-cue, which was enjoyed by all.

A grand total of around £250 was raised by the event, which will be placed in the residents' fund to help pay for the resident's holidays and activities.

Matron Janice Sowden said: 'It was good, even despite the horrible weather. The residents really enjoyed themselves.

'We had a good attendance from friends and family, and from people in the village, we were really pleased.'

The fête committee expressed thanks to activities organiser Val Letheren and the staff who helped either prepare for the fete or on the day itself for all of their hard work.
