Chagford Reserves 4
Clyst Valley Thirds 2
CHAGFORD opened their home season in fine form, with the occasional wobble to keep their followers alert. Within the first twenty minutes both teams created openings that deserved better finishing, Jake Rowe firing over when sent through for the hosts. A four-minute Gavin Forsey double, mid-way through the first half, showed the best of Chagford's play. Jerome Whatley chipped in an excellent free-kick and Forsey dived in to head home the 24th minute opener. Ralph and Whatley then combined for the latter to set up Forsey again, his low drive proving unstoppable.
Valley refused to be cowed and Tagg was sent clear to reduce the arrears in the 38th minute. The two goal gap was restored just two minutes later as Ralph and Whatley again worked the ball in for David Jordan to claim a simple tap-in.
Man of the match Jerome Whatley's crosses and corners were a key factor through that first half and were to again prove deadly just seven minutes into the second. Clyst failed to clear Whatley's corner and, following a clutch of ricochets, he deftly chipped the ball over for Jordan to head home his second goal. Again the visitors came back and notched a second as Clark's superb free-kick beat Rebollo to reach the top corner of the net. A flurry of changes in the final fifteen minutes broke up a flowing match, but Chagford never looked like giving up the advantage and came out worthy winners.
The Reserves entertain Uplowman Athletic Reserves this weekend (3pm) in the hope of adding further points.
