A FAMILY-based restoration business has been shortlisted for the South Devon Excellence awards.

Character Builders South West Ltd, based in Moretonhampstead, is up for the most innovative company category.

The company is led by four brothers, Matthew, Simeon, Thomas and Samuel Diffey, who each specialise in different areas of expertise.

Company director Thomas Diffey said they were pleased to be shortlisted for the awards: 'Times are challenging, but it's good to see our particular brand of building is weathering the storm well and we are getting recognition for our work.

'We do offer that bit extra in terms of customer service and a more green outlook — this is what the judges have picked up on and so it's fingers crossed as to whether we win or not.'

The company blends traditional building methods with a more modern approach, while integrating both modern and traditional materials.

They also recycle material waste and use local businesses for supplies and avoid chain stores where possible.

The awards ceremony will be on Thursday, November 19 at South Devon College in Paignton.
