AN Okehampton girl has been nominated for a prestigious National Apprenticeship Award. Sophie Osman from Quinns Hairdressing, aged 20, has been nominated by Exeter College for the 2014 National Apprentice of the Year Award. More than 1,300 apprentices use the college, but only a small handful of students have received nominations, highlighting Sophie's great achievement. The awards recognise both excellence in businesses that grow their own talent through apprenticeships, and the apprentices who have made a significant contribution to their workplaces. Sophie began her apprenticeship in 2010, becoming a qualified hairdresser in 2012. Since then she has completed her NVQ Level 3. Dawn Pitts from Quinns said: 'Sophie shows a real commitment to her career for someone so young. 'She is a good educator for other apprentices and continues to further her training and development by attending regular hairdressing events.' The team at Quinns has expressed their delight that Sophie has been nominated for her dedication and hard work, and has wished her luck and hopes she wins the award.
