THERE promises to be something for every one as the 2008 Sport and Fitness Festival gets set to hit Okehampton. This year's sport festival, organised by Okehampton Community Recreation Association, will take place from Sunday, July 13 until Sunday, July 30. The week's worth of events are made up of a huge range of competitions, therapies and 'have-a-go' sessions. There is something for everyone with highlights set to include football, hockey, netball and cricket tournaments, skating and bike jam, martial arts, walking and a host of therapies such as reflexology, hot stones and massage. This year will also boast an 'extreme' sport element with climbing and a brand new high ropes course on offer from Okehampton Youth Hostel who will also be offering discounted bike hire throughout the week. The festival will launch with a special 'Super Sporting Sunday' taking place in Simmons Park and Okehampton College on July 13, with a five-a-side football tournament, hockey tournament and putting competition. Most of the sessions are free of charge and will provide an excellent opportunity to discover a new sport. Stuart Lord, of OCRA, said: 'The whole festival is about people joining in and having a good time.' Full details of all the events are outlined in the festival's programmes which are available now from Serious About Sport, Okehampton Library, Red Lion Bazaar and the Okehampton Times office. The festival's ethos is to be accessible to anybody, including those with learning or physical disabilities who are also being given the opportunity to take part in a range of sessions and activities.
