TWO firecrews from Okehampton used breathing apparatus to deal with a fire in a flat in the town on Monday evening.

The crews, with Watch Commander Ian Donovan in charge, were called to the ground floor flat in Mill Road, after a neighbour heard a smoke alarm.

On arrival the crews found the flat heavily smoke-logged, but that the occupants were safely out of the building.

The firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus and a hose reel to extinguish the fire.
