DARTMOOR'S wildlife will be the topic of discussion at the next meeting of Okehampton and District Local History Group.

The talk will be given by John Walters, an artist and ecologist who has written and illustrated books and taken part in television and radio programmes. He trained at the Falmouth School of Art and Design and has worked for the Dartmoor National Park Authority as a graphic designer.

The meeting takes place on Wednesday, December 10 at the Ockment Centre from 7.30pm. There will be no talk in January when the society has its annual lunch, but in February David Bubear will be speaking about Meldon Reservoir.

Meetings of the history society are held on the second Wednesday of the month, at 7.30pm in the Ockment Centre. New members are always welcome and anyone interested should contact the secretary, Jane Lehni, on 01837 840087.

Non-members may attend meetings at a charge of £2 per person including coffee and biscuits.
