THE Okehampton and District Local History Society is undertaking a project on the impact World War One had on the town and its surrounding area.
Dr Alan Parkinson from the history society said: ‘The group has already collected a range of fascinating press reports, letters, diary accounts and photographs of life not only on the Western Front but also back home in Devon. We hope to produce a book on our findings in 2016.
‘However, we would also love to hear from anyone who possesses photographs or documents relating to a relative’s war service, or who perhaps has stories to tell of their loved one’s war experiences.’
If you would like to forward copies of photos or letters or perhaps share the recollections of loved ones please get in touch with Dr Alan Parkinson on [email protected] or phone 01837 880497. The project has been part-funded by a grant from Okehampton Town Council.
