West Devon Junior Life Skills have received a financial boost from the Okehampton Educational Foundation.

Karen Percival, assistant clerk to the trustees of the foundation, presented a cheque for £1,185 to Cllr Donald Horn, mayor of West Devon, for the Junior Life Skills programme.

This year, 550 Year 6 pupils from primary schools within the borough visited Okehampton Camp to learn vital new skills to keep themselves and others safe.

Children faced nine different simulated scenarios, each of which they may encounter in real life. With the help of experts they learned how to recognise potential danger, deal with emergencies and be socially responsible.
