SOUTH Tawton and District Local History Group is holding a special exhibition on the weekend of October 29 and 30 to mark its 20th anniversary.
The group was established at a meeting in the Victory Hall, South Zeal in April 1991. The celebration exhibition is entitled 'From the Archive.'
On the Saturday it will be held between noon and 5pm and on the Sunday from 10am to 5pm. There will be light refreshments and admission is £2, children free.
Meg Wolton, a spokesperson for the group, said: 'There has been a long association between the Victory Hall and the group — even before the group was conceived an exhibition of the photographs that were to become the core of the archive was one of the first fundraising events in a programme to raise money to modernise the hall in the 1990s.
'Then, as part of the modernisation, a grant was received from the Carnegie Foundation on the understanding that the hall's committee room would obtain cupboards to house the parish archive. Maintaining the archive has always been an important part of the history group's function and it contains much more than the original collection of historic photographs.'
In recognition of the close association between the Victory Hall and South Tawton and District History Group, all proceeds from the exhibition will go to hall funds.
