BBC RADIO Devon presenter Matt Woodley is 'coming out of retirement' for a special charity event later this month.

The radio station marks its 30th anniversary this year, and has teamed up with the Devon Community Foundation to raise money for small voluntary or community groups helping local people, or an individual or organisation, who wants to make a difference to their local community.

Before becoming a BBC presenter, Matt used to run the mobile disco in the Okehampton area, and he will dust off his old decks to play a charity disco to support the station's fundraising efforts.

Listeners from across Devon suggested venues across the county, before John Hutchings from the White Hart Hotel in Holsworthy offered free use of the newly refurbished Memorial Hall in the town.

Matt said: 'While I appreciate this is a gig in Holsworthy, I'm hoping that lots of folk will travel from the Okey area to support BBC Radio Devon's 30th birthday appeal.

'I used to run the mobile disco around town 20 odd years ago, and am coming out of retirement to run this special night in aid of our appeal.'

The Memorial Hall will host the disco on Friday April 26 at 7.30pm. Alongside the Good Morning Devon team including presenter Michael Chequer, newsreader Lisa Hay, north Devon reporter Kirk England and others, Matt's disco set promises a night of funky retro fun. There will be a bar and raffle, with music from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s playing through until midnight.

Tickets are available for a minimum donation of £5 each. If you would like tickets, send a cheque made payable to BBC Radio Devon Give a Gift, plus how many tickets you would like and a return address to Retro Disco, BBC Radio Devon, PO Box 1034, Plymouth. Tickets also available from HBH Woolacotts Electrical or the White Hart Hotel in Holsworthy.
