THE mayor of West Devon, Cllr Robin Musgrave, is writing to pistol shooter Georgina Geikie to congratulate her on competing at the London 2012 Olympics.

Gorgs, as she is known, lives at South Tawton and was the only British pistol shooter to qualify for a quota place after her performance at the European Championships in Belgrade last year.

She competed in the women's 10m air pistol and the 25m sport pistol events at the London 2012 Olympics.

In the letter, Cllr Musgrave, says: 'Through your dedication and commitment, you have competed at the very highest level of your sport and deserve our recognition.

'On behalf of the council, I would like to say how proud we are to have such an accomplished sportswoman living in West Devon.

'You are a role model for young people in the borough and I believe your achievement will help to "inspire a generation".

'I would like to wish you every success in your future competitions and hope to see you compete as part of Team GB at Rio 2016.'
