A GP from Okehampton who took on a half-marathon challenge on the other side of the world for charity, has killed two birds with one stone.

Susan Taheri, who is a partner GP at the Okement Surgery and based in Okehampton Community Hospital, raised £936.36 when she took part in the Angkor Wat Half-Marathon in Cambodia last December.

The money will be shared between the Dartmoor Ward at Okehampton Hospital and Hospiscare.

She also combined her trip with a visit to her sister, who lives in Cambodia, where she set out to get her wedding dress made.

Miss Taheri expressed thanks to all the people who supported her challenge.

She said: 'The run was a fantastic experience and there were over 4,000 runners in the various categories.

'We left at 6.30am to avoid the worst heat and there was lots of local support.

'It was a pretty amazing experience running through the ancient Angkorian ruins, particularly in the final couple of miles of the run.

'The other part of the mission also went well and I came back with not one, but two beautiful hand-made wedding dresses which I am looking forward to showing off.'

Dr Taheri is due to marry on Friday, April 23.
