AN Easter festival of rugby to be held at Okehampton is to get a financial helping hand, following a meeting in the town last week.

Okehampton Rugby Club is staging an inter-club competition for junior players at its home ground on April 4. The club, which has around 200 young members on its lists, applied to Okehampton Town Council for a grant of £200, to help provide prizes for the youngsters.

Members of the council's planning and resources committee last week heard that the event relied heavily on volunteer help from parents, and that the club ran many fundraising activities such as discos, quiz nights and raffles to help support its activities.

The committee agreed that the rugby club should be granted the funds, to buy 50 medals and 50 Easter eggs.
