Okehampton ladies and men's hockey clubs held their end of season awards night at Okehampton Rugby Club last Friday.
The junior members were presented with their skills awards which they had been working towards throughout the season. The girls' junior trophy was awarded to Shannon Osman and the boys' junior trophy was awarded to Jack Watson.
Carol Chapman, chairman of the ladies club, said what a successful season 2010/11 had been with the first team finishing second in Trelawney league one and many junior girls stepping up to play in the second team. The first team player of the season went to Lesley Bingham with Jo Moppett winning the highest goalscorer award. Player of the season for the seconds was awarded to Sophie Whiteley with Grace Thorp claiming the highest goal scorer. The most improved player of the club was jointly awarded to young player Katie Adams and next years second team captain Nicola Stoneman. The ladies club member of the season was presented to Jane Jones.
Men's club chairman John Jarvis was also able to report on a very successful season. The men's first team won back-to-back promotions and will play in South East division one next season. The first team player of the season was Nick Luxton and most improved player Simon Bourne. The second team too won promotion and they will now play in South Eastern district one. The second team have been able to take advantage of a number of good young junior players coming through, and two of them Josh Balsdon and Luke Liversage shared the most improved player award. Second team player of the season was deservedly won by Adam Cockayne.
John Jarvis thanked retiring second team captain Ian Miller for his tireless efforts in developing this young side. Andy Harvey won the clubman of the year in recognition for all the support that he gives the club.
