A NEW wood chip central heating boiler and hot water system has been installed at Nethercott Farm in Iddlesleigh, as part of Farms for City Children's aim to keep green.
Nethercott Farm is one of three farms which cater for urban children who stay at the site and take part in all areas of farming.
The new wood chip heater will heat the building which accommodates 36 pupils and four to five teachers every week, providing them with their hot water and heating.
Chief executive of Farms for City Children Helen Chaloner said: 'It is exciting for us because we are all about educating children in the broader sense.
'It adds another element to their week and they will get to see the wood being chipped and also learn where their hot water and heating is coming from.'
Children between the ages of nine and eleven are involved in everything necessary to keep the farms going.
Farms for City Children want to replace radiators and pipe-work next summer and will be looking for help to raise money. Anyone interested in helping can phone Tracey Izod on: 01837 55876
