FOR people with limited mobility a 'Tramper' taster day was the ideal way to see one of Dartmoor's scenic spots.
Thanks to Countryside Mobility, with funding from Dartmoor National Park, the free event was held last month with a guided tour up Sourton Tor, led by Dartmoor Ranger Rob Taylor.
A tramper all-terrain mobility scooter was made available by Devon Cycle Hire at Sourton, to help people who have difficulty walking to access the countryside.
To encourage more people to 'have a go', Countryside Mobility brought in on the day more scooters for the free Tramper taster day.
Catherine Goff, from Devon Cycle Hire, said: 'As it was a successful day there may be future trips planned and the Countryside Mobility Tramper scheme is expanding, adding new sites across the South West all the time.'
Devon Cycle Hire has one Tramper available to hire and Catherine stressed that this event was a one-off and although hirers would not be able to go up Sourton Tor they could explore the Granite Way and now that the bridge had been widened under Lake Viaduct the Bearslake Inn is easily accessible.
People who join the Countryside Mobility scheme can hire trampers throughout the South West, including Sourton, Castle Drogo and Roadford Lake. For details call 01392 456522.
