MID Devon Explorer Scouts have been celebrating, after completing their activities for the prestigious Queen's Scout Award and the gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.

At a presentation evening for parents, friends and fellow scouts Phil Anstee, Tom Hearn, Shaun Fry, Rob Cooke and Oliver Charlton re-lived their experiences of their four day expedition on the Black Mountains in Wales, to study erosion and impact of man on the landscape.

This had turned out to be anything but straightforward, as one of the members, who had joined them from Dorset, sustained an injury which necessitated a change of plans so that he could stay with them and complete the task set.

They received high praise from the Welsh assessor for their abilities and teamwork.

Also celebrating were younger members of the Explorer Unit, William Beacon, Ceri Quick, Josh Salter and Sophie Hunt, who talked about their two day expedition on the Templar Way for their Chief Scout Platinum Award and their bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Both teams were commended for their hard work and their presentations by Explorer Scout Commissioner, Paul Charlton.
