AN Okehampton resident has had her embroidery voted as the best entry at the recent Embroidery and Needlework show in Birmingham.

Hilary Sharp's entry into the Madeira Threads competition was classed as the winner by visitors voting at the NEC arena.

Madeira Threads ran two competitions, one for machine embroidery and the second for hand embroidered exhibits, each with India as their theme.

On each of the four days of the show, visitors to the Madeira Threads stand were asked which exhibit they thought best depicted the look and character of India and Hilary's montage was their interpretation of choice.

Hilary's picture will now tour the country in all of this summer's Stitch, Sew and Hobbycraft shows, including at Westpoint, Exeter on September 25 to 28.

Hilary Sharp is well-known in Okehampton as the secretary of Ocmundtune Creative Arts that will be celebrating the role of creative and performing arts in the Okehampton area with a weekend arts event in May at the Ockment Centre.
