MURDER, mystery, mayhem and Marple will be the talk of the town when residents gather to discover more about the life and works of Agatha Christie next month.

Local historian John Risdon will give an illustrated talk about the Queen of Crime and her connections with Devon, her childhood and early life in Victorian and Edwardian Torquay, to her association with Greenway, her home near Brixham, during her later years.

The event promises to be a fascinating insight into one of the nation's favourite authors.

After the talk visitors will have the opportunity to ask Mr Risdon questions and join him for refreshments.

Agatha Christie was born in Torquay in 1890. She died in 1976, aged 85, and left a legacy of locations associated not only with her life, but also the 80 crime novels, 19 plays, six romantic novels and two books of poems she penned.

Tickets cost £2 and must be booked in advance at Okehampton Library or by phone on 01837 52805.

The talk is on Wednesday, March 17 at 7pm in Okehampton Library.
