Devon and Exeter division three

South Zeal United 1

Dawlish Town 1

SOUTH Zeal started well against Dawlish on Saturday with Redd Cann and Tom Boother both going close before Tom Reilly put them one up after 15 minutes from close range.

For the final 20 minutes of the first half Zeal seemed to lose their way and the visitors equalised on the half hour when a speculative shot was missed by all of the home defence leaving Reg Wonnacott in the South Zeal goal stranded.

In the second half South Zeal created several good chances but two golden opportunities were missed from close range and several shots were cleared of the line by the Dawlish defence which allowed the visitors to hang on for a point.

Chard 2

South Zeal United 1

THE previous week Zeal were beaten 2-1 by a very good Chard side. They took the lead when Harley Cann rounded the Chard keeper and finished from close range.

However, when the referee awarded Chard a penalty the resultant kick bobbled and went over the hand of Reg Wonnacott to give Chard all three points.

It was Reg Wonnacott's 50th birthday on Saturday. Roger Halliday, on behalf of the club, thanks Reg for all his efforts in taking Zeal up the leagues in his 300 plus appearances for the club.

'We all hope he plays many more games for South Zeal,' said Roger.
