FIREFIGHTERS from Okehampton were among three crews who rescued a horse stuck in a ditch at Germansweek last Friday.
On arrival at Northcombe, around 11.30am, the crews found the horse, who was in-foal, trapped upside down in an 8ft gully between a bank and a building.
A farmer assisted with the use of a mechanical digger, to dig away the bank. Firefighters used strops and lines and released the horse just after 2.30pm.
l A horsebox trapped in electric gates in Bowbeer Lane, Spreyton, was released by firefighters from North Tawton on Saturday afternoon. A cargo van carrying a horse was stuck in an electric gateway. They isolated the power and used a winch and lines to release the vehicle.
