Okehampton ladies 8

Isca ladies fourths 3

TOP of the league Okehampton Columbines went into this match with confidence against the Exeter side.

Three minutes in and a long ball up the right wing from Kim Davey was picked up by Jo Moppet who crossed for Lesley Bingham to score. Moppet made several largely solo runs which looked dangerous for Isca before she got Oke's second goal.

Neat and fast passes kept the ball largely in Okehampton's possession as the ball moved around the pitch but once Isca got the ball they were swift and determined.  One such lightening strike found the left winger on the post who scored for Isca.

The home midfield kept feeding the ball through to the forwards with Louise Weller and Alex Collins blocking attacks on the left with determination and panache.  Moppet used every opportunity and scored two more goals by half-time.

Lesley Bingham scored again for Oke before Isca replied with a speedy attack and nifty passing. Viv Weatherington blocked several strikes but an attempt to stop a ball in the circle fell to the centre forward who slipped it to a lurking wing leaving the goalie no chance.  A third goal for Isca was scored when it was deflected off the centre back's stick to lift into the top left corner.

Brieze Read, Oke's player of the match, showed pace and skill.  She seized several opportunities to snatch the ball from the Isca attack and take it up the pitch to feed the hungry forwards.  Three more goals followed —  Kim Davey's second goal and Okehampton's seventh was particularly pleasing; Kim took the ball up the left wing and shook off several defenders to push the ball past the goalie.

Right to the end Isca kept pushing the attack with Carol Taylor, Brieze Read and Abby Colton defending well.

n The Columbines next league match is on January 21, 2012 at home to Newton Abbot.
