AT a recent meeting of the Okehampton Town Council the mayor, Cllr the Rev Mike Davies, discussed greater community interaction.

The mayor proposed an idea for a series of  monthly breakfasts with a wide range of different speakers.

Cllr Davies said: 'The breakfasts would basically be open to anyone who had a heart for Okehampton to come and network with others within the community and to listen to a short talk from people involved with Okehampton.'

The first breakfast will be on Wednesday, September 25, at the White Hart Hotel, in Okehampton. The breakfast will start at 8am and cost £7 per person.

Payment must be made by Friday, September 20 for those wishing to attend the inaugural breakfast.

Payment will need to be made to the Town Hall in cash or cheques payable to:  'Okehampton Town Council – Mayor's Account'.

The first speaker will be West Devon police inspector Andy Oliver.

The mayor said he believed that 'each breakfast will help to provide some cohesion and engagement for both residents, community members and business people within the town'.

Any profit from each breakfast will be used to help support the mayor's chosen charities for 2013/2014, which are Get Changed Theatre Company and Tor Support Services.
