DESPITE some rain, people flocked to Simmons Park on Sunday to race ducks down the river and take part in a family day out.
The annual May Fair, organised by Okehampton Rotary Club, entertained visitors with a car boot sale, dog show and fair ground rides as well as the ever popular duck race.
Okehampton Postmaster Allenton Fisher said: 'We've never had so many people in the park at 11am. The skies opened up but people stayed.
'We thought the weather would force us not to have such a good day, but we sold all the ducks.
'The mayor opened the event and stayed all day, the dog show was excellent, Wren Music sang, there were lots of fairground rides and most of the charities in Okehampton had stalls. We want to thank everyone for their support.'
First prize winners of the three duck races were Rose Horseley, Sue Rose and Chris Hariades, who each won £100.
The club is still counting the funds raised from the day but the total so far is in excess of £2,500.
