A FUN day held by Bratton Clovelly Pre-School was a big success, with organisers raising £835 for their new playground.

Fundraising organiser Andrea Cartwright said: 'Fundraising for phase two of the playground has been taken on by Bratton Clovelly under 5s.

'We want to thank the WI and all who supported us, Richard Phillips for being our compere, and Phil Bowler and his band, for brilliant performances.'

The winners of the fancy dress competition, which was judged by parish councillors Bob Pond and Philip Worth, were princesses Jessye Phillips and Grace Smallwood. And best pirate went to Emily Smallwood.

The new play area was opened by parish councillor and member of the Bratton active play committee Paul Bellamy.

Mr Bellamy said: 'Fundraising for the playground started some 20 years ago, so thank you to the original fundraisers who got the ball rolling.

'Thanks must also go to the grant funders who were, the Manor House Hotel, West Devon Borough Council, Awards for all Lottery, Bratton Clovelly Parish Council and many donations from local residents.'
