Okehampton Columbines 2
Okehampton men's B 3
AFTER a cautious start the young men's team started moving the ball around quickly through Rob Hall, Martin Hall, Martin Jones and Jake Lloyd with the younger players opening the play and causing problems for the Columbines.
The men took the lead after ten minutes with Jake Lloyd capping off a good solo goal striking the ball low and hard into the net.
Midway through the half, the men doubled their lead through Rob Hall picking up from a loose short corner. This acted as a wake up call for the experienced ladies team and they started to play some good passing hockey from midfielders Kim Davey, Sarah Jones and Amanda Sim and the ever dangerous Jo Moppet, who managed to claw one back after splitting the Okehampton defence in half to tap in a easy finish.
The Columbines could have equalised through Moppet and Lesley Bingham but were just unable to turn their chances into goals and the men made them pay with Dan Rademaker scoring their third.
The ladies did get one back again through Moppet after some persistence from a short corner which set up a tense last ten minutes with Adam Cockanye, Lloyd and Sam Whalley for the men and Moppet and Bingham for the ladies all having chances going close.
