ON Saturday at Okehampton Golf Club a large field competed for the Jim Butcher Medal in memory of Jim, a long standing member, who sadly died earlier this year and who is greatly missed.
Members generously made donations for a commemorative tree to be planted on the course.
The overall winner of the Jim Butcher Medal was Ian Drayner with a net 63. The winner of division one was Richard McFarlane with a nett 64 followed in second by Alan Hawking with a net 65 on the back nine from Matt Soby also with a net 65.
Division two was won by Ian Drayner with a nett 63. Second was Rod Milsom-Smith with a 64 from and Allen Deakin, also on 64, was third. In division three was won by Raymond Grey with a nett 64, followed in second by Robert McDowell with a 65; third was Martin Jewell with 67.
Though the season of matches is at an end the ladies of Okehampton Golf Club have played two 'friendlies' this autumn, against Torrington and Yelverton.
Both were played as Greensomes with Okehampton winning against Torrington 6-0 and Yelverton 5 and a half to half.
There was a qualifying Stableford with Penny Deakin winning the silver division with 34 pts; second was Marcia Jones on 32 and third Marcia Guy on 31. The bronze division was won by Maureen Howe with a superb 38; second was Liz Slee with 34 and vice-captain Jenni Hutchinson was third with 33.
On Wednesday the re-arranged Jarman Bowl foursomes Stableford winners, with a superb round of 41pts, were Mary Keir and Michelle Abel; second were Maureen Willcocks and Doris Jewell on 32 pts and third were Linda Walker and Cherry James with 31 pts,
The ladies section recently held a Pink Charity Day and a magnificent total of £385 was raised.
