Belstone v Exford
TOURING side Exford were indebted to a fine innings from Jonty Williams when they visited Belstone last Saturday.
Coming in at number five after Matt Dennis (8-1-24-3) had taken three early wickets he survived a couple of chances early on before taking control in the later stages with fluent stroke-play to all parts of the ground before retiring having reached exactly 100.
That left Kyle May and Dennis Edwards to take three late wickets as Exford finished their 40 overs on 209-7.
In reply Belstone passed 50 with only one wicket down in the 11th over, helped by a generous supply of wides.
Opener Dennis Edwards showed good early season form with an untroubled 40 before he was fourth out with the score on 105. Belstone kept in the hunt with a lively partnership between youngsters Ryan Dennis (37) and Callum Mallet (21) and it was only when their stand of 44 in nine overs was broken that Exford could breathe more easily, as they mopped up the tail very quickly to run out winners by 45 runs.
