Truro Ladies 1

Oke Columbines 4

OKEHAMPTON ladies travelled to Cornwall to play top of the league Truro.

Truro attacked hard on their right and put Okehampton under intense pressure right from the start.

A strike from the edge of the circle rebounded from the defence and across the goal mouth. Oke's right back, Debbie Pritchard, in an ecstasy of fumbling, caught the ball in the air but after seconds of juggling only managed to tip it into the goal to put Truro one goal up.

Oke then appeared to settle into their game. The half line of Alex Collins, Jane Jones, Louise Weller and Rachel Hammett created a formidable defence.

Up front the ever hungry Jo Moppett and Viv Weatherington moved and darted across the whole front line. It was not long before Jo Moppett found her way around Truro's vigilant goalie for the equaliser and then another to put Okehampton 2-1 up at half time.

Truro changed their shape for the second half but again pushed down the right side. Oke's left back, Sandy Douglas, showed her mettle again while Jane Jones' lightening reactions stopped several balls going into the circle. A long pass from Jane found Jo Moppett who zig-zagged through the field to strike from the edge of the circle for Viv Weatherington to give it that final tap into goal.

Truro tried to mark Jo out of the game but her speed made this a hard and often fruitless task.

Okehampton were tempted to push further up the field and were wrong footed when three Truro players passed the defence leaving goalie Sophie Whiteley alone. Sophie took advantage of a fumble by the attacking centre forward to clear the danger.

The ball was taken by captain Alex Collins before it came to Jo Moppett to wrong footed the frantic goalie and make it 4-1.
