EIGHT teams from across Devon competed in the Hatherleigh eight a-side tournament on Sunday.

Hatherleigh reached the final by beating Axminster, Plymouth and Exmouth.

The game against Plymouth was particularly nerve-racking as Hatherleigh scraped home by one run.

Frances Lausen and Anna Cherrington were the main run scorers and Clare Reynolds and Leanne Drew were the most economical bowlers in helping Hatherleigh get to the final.

Torquay batted first in the final and — with Lydia Harris' forceful batting — posted 54-2.

Hatherleigh's reply was a virtual mirror image of Torquay's and when the final over began, Hatherleigh needed seven to win. When Torquay took two wickets the game appeared to shift to Torquay.

However, a last ball four from Frances Lausen won the tournament cup for Hatherleigh.
