A MAGICAL lit procession will wind its way through Okehampton tonight (Thursday).

Volunteers and youngsters alike have been busy crafting lanterns and wonderful crafts throughout half-term for tonight's Okehampton Lanterns Procession.

Wren Music held a series of workshops throughout the half-term week for children to get involved in the procession and make their own lanterns.

Indigo Ramsey was one of the children enjoying the workshops.

She said: 'It's been really fun and we really can't wait for the procession.

'I've loved making the lanterns, and making lots of fish lanterns for the parade.'

Inspired by the East and West Okement rivers, columns of lanterns will start off at the Okehampton Rugby Club and Giblands at 6pm, and join up for the finale in Simmons Park.

Both processions will have a special large lantern made especially for the project by renowned kinetic artist Gavin Lewery.

The lantern walkers will be joined by singers and drummers, as well as performances by the West Devon Folk Choir and Okehampton Youth Roots Ensemble.

All are welcome to come along and watch the two processions through the town and join in the Simmons Park finale.
