A PRESENTATION on the future of the Royal British Legion 'The Way Ahead' will be part of the annual meeting of the Okehampton branch on November 22.
The meeting will be held at 8pm in the RBL social club in Station Road and members are urged to attend and show their continued support for the organisation, whose membership is declining.
Membership of the legion is open to all — service in the armed forces is not necessary. All that is needed is a strong interest in helping with the pursuit of the legion's objectives, ie, to provide welfare assistance to both current and former service personnel and their dependants.
An ever-increasing number of veterans of recent conflicts, including the current operations in Afghanistan, are experiencing welfare and health difficulties, which have a direct impact on the legion's resources.
The legion said it was essential that it maintained a high public profile and encouraged public awareness of the help it provided to the men and women who serve their country so unselfishly.
Members wishing to table items for consideration and discussion at the annual meeting should submit the motion in writing to the branch secretary no later than November 18.
